Alfred Gumbs and the
AWG Music record
label is pleased to announce the simultaneous release of three music albums
on Wednesday, September 19th, 2007 titled ROOTS, LOVERS ROCK and
PRAISE HIM (a compilation of gospel roots reggae from the 60s to now). The
release is to take place on WSTA this Wednesday evening on the show “Home
Grown Reggae” hosted by Ras Imani. All the cuts on the albums are written
and performed by Alfred Gumbs, popularly known as “Al-G” and represents his
10th album released over the past 22 years. In fact Al-G has had
all first releases of his albums on WSTA and is proud of this tradition.
Al-G’s latest releases are the result of his
collaboration with the famous reggae producer and studio engineer Karl Pitterson, who was responsible for award winning recordings with reggae
greats Bob Marley, Peter Tosh, Bunny Wailer, Jimmy Cliff,
Burning Spear and
Steel Pulse, just to name a few. Many of the critics have rated Al-G’s
recordings as Five Stars, a standard he intends to maintain with the
assistance of Karl Pitterson.
AL-G started his own label AWG Music over ten years
ago with a press release on July 6, 1996 in the leading trade publication
Billboard magazine, then distributed in 163 countries worldwide. His
roots-oriented reggae music has had sales globally and is planned to get
even bigger with these new releases. This is based on a special distribution
and marketing deal with the Ernie B’s record label, a leading reggae
distributor and wholesaler operating out of California.
Al-G is proud of his role as one of the pioneers in
the production and recording of reggae music in the USVI and welcomes the
development of the Virgin Islands as one of the hotbeds of this art form
with several artistes developing a name for themselves locally and
internationally through recordings and stage performances.
