Ikahba (Ariel Peterson) is the latest roots talent to emerge from the Afrikan Roots Lab stable. He has some really soothing vocals (that sound similar to Tenor Saw) which balance out nicely with his tough chants.

The Music

The music of Ikahba first surfaced in 2000 with the Glamorous Records compilation, on which he sings four selections (using the name Ika Melody) including a combination with Army. 2004 saw the release of Troddin To Zion, the debut album of Ikahba by Afrikan Roots Lab records, in which Midnite and Ron Benjamin bring out the best of Ikahba. He also appears on both of the Black Star Liner compilations.

Ikahba toured California for the first time in the summer of 2004, along with roots empress Dezarie.   He is currently working on his next album, which will be released in 2005.  For more information, click on one of the images below.

Troddin To Zion

Ikahba is the latest artist to emanate from the roots caldron currently bubbling on the island of St. Croix. His debut album ‘Troddin To Zion' was released in January of 2004 on the Afrikan Roots Lab record label. Like all ARL releases, "Troddin" features the preeminent roots band, Midnite, laying down some wicked bass lines and rhythms. Add a heavy dose of conscious lyrics along with Ron Benjamin’s unique engineering skills and you’ve got the recipe for another cruzial album. - More

"You have to have perseverance.  You have to have endurance.  You have to have faith. You have to have patience when you're dealing with the Most High cause things ain't gonna happen when you want it to happen. Everything has it's time and place. It's gonna happen when it is supposed to happen, when you are ready for it. Not when you want it to happen."
